(2026) Ryndevich, S. K.; Zuqi Mai; Fenglong Jia; Xuan Lam Truong; Saluk, S. V.; Рындевич, С. К.
Asiacyon derunkovi sp.n. was described from Vietnam. The new species is closest to Asiacyon pax Mai, Jia, Ryndevich et Fikáček, 2024 from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Hunan (China) and A. vicincretus Mai, Jia, Ryndevich et Fikáček, 2024 from Guangdong and Guangxi (China). It differs from similar species by the very narrow mesoventral plate (ca. 12.8–13.0× as long as wide) and structure of male genitalia. Helochares (Hydrobaticus) anchoralis Sharp, 1890, Thysanarthria trifida Fikáček et Liu, 2019, Amphiops mirabilis Sharp, 1890, Asiacyon incretus (d'Orchymont, 1941), Asiacyon paraequalis Mai, Jia, Ryndevich et Fikáček, 2024, Cercyon (Paracycreon) laminatus Sharp, 1873 are reported for the first time for the fauna of Vietnam, Hydrophilus acuminatus Motschulsky, 1854 - for Laos, Cryptopleurum coomani d’Orchymont, 1926 - for India, Ametor rudesculptus A. Semenov, 1900 - for Afghanistan.

Taxonomic Revision and Phylogeny of the Genus Peltocercyon d'Orchymont, 1925 (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae: Megasternini)
(Magnolia Press, 2025) Zuqi Mai; Fenglong Jia; Ryndevich, S. K.; Angus, R.; Minoshima, Y. N.; Fikáček, M.; Růžička, J.; Рындевич, С. К.
The Asian-endemic genus Peltocercyon d'Orchymont, 1925 (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae: Sphaeridiinae: Megasternini) is revised and redefined based on morphological characters and DNA data (five nuclear and three mitochondrial fragments). The metaventrite, with complete femoral lines crossing the arcuate ridges, is confirmed as the best diagnostic character for Peltocercyon in contrast to the morphology of the prosternum and mesoventrite which vary within the genus. DNA data reveal that Peltocercyon contains two separate lineages and that aedeagal morphology is more phylogenetically informative than external characters. A total of 17 species are recognized, of which nine are newly described: Peltocercyon basirugosus sp. nov. (China: Hainan, Yunnan; Laos: Bolikhamsai, Phongsaly Luang Prabang), P. carnarius sp. nov. (Indonesia: West Sumatra; Philippines: Mindanao; Malaysia: Sabah, Sarawak), P. kouwenkaii sp. nov. (China: Xizang), P. latifossus sp. nov. (Indonesia: Sumba), P. maculipennis sp. nov. (China: Taiwan, Sichuan, Chongqing, Guizhou and Guangxi; Laos: Houaphanh; Vietnam: Tam Dao; India: Arunachal Pradesh), P. medogensis sp. nov. (China: Xizang), P. rugosipennis sp. nov. (China: Xizang), P. splendidus sp. nov. (China: Xizang, Yunnan, Sichuan, Shaanxi, Hubei; India: Arunachal Pradesh), P. taylorae sp. nov. (China: Yunnan; Laos: Houaphanh, Phongsaly; India: Arunachal Pradesh). Three species are transferred to Peltocercyon from Cercyon Leach, 1817: Peltocercyon vagus (Sharp, 1884), comb. nov., P. vividus (d'Orchymont, 1925), comb. nov., and P. sanaii (Hoshina, 2008), comb. nov. Peltocercyon coomani d'Orchymont, 1925 is newly recorded from China, Laos, Thailand and Malaysia, P. lunulatus (Gemminger & Harold, 1868) from China, Laos, Malaysia, Cambodia and Myanmar, and P. vividus for Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. The closely related species P. maculipennis sp. nov., P. medogensis sp. nov., P. splendidus sp. nov. and P. taylorae sp. nov. are treated as the P. splendidus group. The Japanese and Far East species P. vagus (Sharp, 1884), P. subopacipennis (Nakane, 1965), P. sanaii (Hoshina, 2008), P. shigehisai Hoshina, 2018 and P. ohoni Hoshina, 2021 are treated as the P. vagus group, both groups being based on elytral sculpture, aedeagal morphology and distribution. Members of the P. vagus group are not treated taxonomically in detail due to limited material available. Diagnostic characters of all species and species groups are illustrated by photographs and SEM micrographs and an identification key and distribution maps of all species are provided. All known Peltocercyon inhabit decaying organic material; we provide the first hypothesis on the evolution of their habitat preferences.

DNA but not always morphology help to recognise monophyletic genera within ‘Cercyon’ terrestrial water scavenger beetles: a case study of Asiacyon gen. nov. (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae)
(2024) Liyang Wang; Zuqi Mai; Ryndevich, S. K.; Fikáček, M.; Arriaga-Varela, E.; Fenglong Jia; Рындевич, С. К.
DNA-based studies have revealed that the terrestrial water scavenger beetle genus Cercyon Leach, 1817 (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae: Sphaeridiinae: Megasternini) is polyphyletic, grouping similarly looking but unrelated species that were not assigned to other genera due to the absence of unusual morphological characters. In this study, we analyse the morphology, DNA data and species diversity of one of the Asian clades of ‘Cercyon’ to test whether a natural, phylogeny-based generic classification can be established. We add DNA data (five nuclear and three mitochondrial fragments) for additional species and specimens of the clade to test its monophyly and reveal phylogenetic relationships among species. We perform a detailed morphological study of all species, including SEM micrographs, to reveal synapomorphies of the DNA-based clades. We demonstrate that the lineage, described here as Asiacyon Mai, Jia, Ryndevich & Fikáček, gen. nov., is strongly supported by DNA data, has limited distribution (eastern Asia), and its species share similar biology (inhabiting fresh or decaying plant tissues), though it can be only diagnosed by a combination of plesiomorphic characters. A detailed treatment is provided for the Chinese species, including species diagnoses, illustrations of habitus and male genitalia, (re)descriptions and a key to species. A total of 14 Chinese species are recognised, of which 11 are described as new: Asiacyon pax sp. nov. (Guangdong, Hong Kong, Hunan), A. pseudincretus sp. nov. (Anhui, Jiangxi, Taiwan, Zhejiang), A. vicincretus sp. nov. (Guangdong, Guangxi), A. zhengyucheni sp. nov. (Yunnan), A. huilanae sp. nov. (Yunnan), A. cornipenis sp. nov. (Yunnan), A. belousovi sp. nov. (Yunnan), A. liangchengi sp. nov. (Yunnan), A. paraequalis sp. nov. (Yunnan), A. pengzhongi sp. nov. (Hunan) and A. xiuzhenae sp. nov. (Hainan, Yunnan). Three Chinese species previously classified in Cercyon are transferred to Asiacyon: A. incretus (d’Orchymont, 1941), comb. nov., A. primoricus (Ryndevich & Prokin, 2017), comb. nov. (newly recorded from China) and A. indicus (d’Orchymont, 1926), comb. nov. (newly recorded from China and Laos). Additionally, seven Asian species previously classified in Cercyon are transferred to Asiacyon based on their external morphology, but not studied in detail: A. aequalis (Sharp, 1884), comb. nov., A. conjiciens (Walker, 1858), comb. nov., A. dilutus (Régimbart, 1903), comb. nov., A. placidus (Sharp, 1884), comb. nov., A. pseudodilutus (Satô, 1979), comb. nov., A. retius (Ryndevich & Prokin, 2017), comb. nov., and A. rubicundus (Sharp, 1884), comb. nov. In total, the genus now comprises 21 named species and several undescribed species from India, Myanmar and Indonesia.

The Check-list of Belarus Coleoptera
(Słupsk Publishers Pomeranian University, 2023) Aleksandrowicz, O.; Pisanenko, А.; Ryndevich, S. K.; Saluk, S.; Рындевич, С. К.
Summary The previous „Catalogue of the beetles of Belarus” was published over 25 years ago (Alexandrovich et al. 1996). Since that time numerous taxonomic changes have been introduced, new data on the already recorded species were collected, information on 868 species that were not included in this earlier list were gathered, moreover, 111 species were previously wrongly identified. The presented new catalogue includes 985 literature sources, containing some publications from before 1996 that were not included in the previous edition. The bibliography contains all works known to the authors from Belarus published for the last 26 years on fauna and on ecology of beetles. It also refers to the newest records, confirmed with the material in collections. As a result of our investigation the total species number in Belarus amounted to 4112 (including 6 subspecies and 155 doubtful species), from 1296 genera and 98 families. Based on the species composition in the faunas of the neighbouring regions, it might be assumed that we know about 80 to 85% of beetle species in Belarus. In the fauna of Belarus four families predominate, as the species number is considered: Staphylinidae (22,4% of the total species number), Curculionidae (13,0%), Chrysomelidae (8,4%) and Carabidae (8,4%). The remaining 94 families include 44,5% of species. The highest species number was recorded in Western Dvina, Neman-Cispolesye and Oshmyany-Minsk regions. Our knowledge on the beetle fauna of the Orsha-Mogilev and Berezina-Cispolesye regions, is the poorest.
