    The beetles of the families Helophoridae, Georissidae, Hydrophilidae, Hydraenidae and Elmidae (Insecta: Coleoptera) of Kunashir Island and the Lesser Kuriles

    The fauna of Kunashir Island and the islands of the Lesser Kuril Chain contains 47 species from 18 genera of Georissidae, Helophoridae, Hydrophilidae, Hydraenidae, and Elmidae. Two species (Enochrus vilis (Sharp, 1884) and Ochthebius inermis Sharp, 1884) are recorded for Russia for the first time. Fifteen species are new to the fauna of Kunashir Island and the Lesser Kurils. The article contains an annotated list of species, including the studied material and published records. The article is illustrated by photographs of habitats and species, maps of their distribution in Kunashir. The relationships between the species richness on an island area and the features of the fauna of Kunashir in comparison with Hokkaido are discussed. The species richness of the studied Polyphaga families in Kunashir is almost 2/3 of the fauna of Hokkaido, while the island’s area is 55 times smaller. The reason for the absence of large species of the genera Hydrochara and Hydrophilus in Kunashir is hypothesized to be a restriction of the northern range species boundaries by the July isotherm of þ16 S.

    New data on the distribution o f Helophoridae, Hydrochidae, and Hydrophilidae (Coleoptera: Hydrophiloidea) species in Russia and adjacent lands are reported. New localities contributing to the knowledge of the ranges of nine species of Helophoridae, two species of Hydrochidae, and 20 species of Hydrophilidae are given. Two species are new to Russia, two to Asia, one to Armenia, one to Uzbekistan, nine to West Siberia, 11 to the Urals, 13 to the Altai, two to the Caucasus, one to Buryat Republic, five to Yamal Peninsula, and one to Vaygach Island. В статье содержатся новые данные о распространении видов семейств Helophoridae, Hydrochidae и Hydrophilidae (Coleoptera: Hydrophiloidea) в России и сопредельных странах. Приводятся новые местонахождения девяти видов Helophoridae, двух видов Hydrochidae и 20 вида Hydrophilidae, уточняющие сведения об их ареалах. Два вида впервые указываются для России, два для Азии, один — для Армении, один — для Узбекистана, девять — для Западной Сибири, 11 — для Урала, 13 — для Алтая, два — для Кавказа, один — для Бурятии, пять — для Ямала, один — для острова Вайгач.

    Review of species of the genus Cercyon of Russia and adjacent regions. VI. Subgenus Cercyon, the C. shinanensis group (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae)

    The Cercyon shinanensis species group with two included species is erected within the nominotypical subgenus of Cercyon Leach, 1817. This group is compared with other Palaearctic species groups of Cercyon s. str. The little-known C. shinanensis Nakane, 1965 from Japan (Honshu) is redescribed and its diagnostic features are given. Cercyon sundukovi sp. nov. is described from the Russian Far East (Kunashir Island). В номинативном подроде рода Cercyon Leach, 1817 выделена группа вида Cercyon shinanensis в составе двух видов. В статье дается сравнение этой группы с другими палеарктиче- скими группами видов Cercyon s. str. Приводится переописание малоизвестного C. shinanensis Nakane, 1965 из Японии (Хонсю) c указанием его диагностических признаков. Cercyon sundukovi sp. nov. описывается с Дальнего Востока России (остров Кунашир).

    Two new species of Cercyon (Clinocercyon) from Russian Far East (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae)

    Two new species, Cercyon retius sp. nov. and C. primoricus sp. nov., both belonging to the subgenus Clinocercyon, are described from the Russian Far East. A key to the identification of the six known Palearctic species of the subgenus is given. Both new species are illustrated by photographs of habitus and some morphological characters and by drawings of male genitalia.Within the subgenus Clinocercyon, the new species are most similar to C. conjiciens (Walker) and to the two Japanese species (C. aequalis Sharp and C. rubicundus Sharp). With the inclusion of these two new species, the fauna of Cercyon in Russia now comprises 47 species from 5 subgenera.
